Checkpoint authority finds woman hiding in car boot filled with toys

Immigrations and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) officers arrested a 52-year-old Chinese national woman who was hiding in the boot of a car. The 38-year-old male driver of the car was also arrested.

On Wednesday, ICA officers directed the arriving car, which seemed to have only the driver inside, for a thorough check at Woodlands Checkpoint.

The officers opened his car boot and found a tricycle, toys, shopping bags and two black trash bags. When ICA officers inspected the black trash bags, they found a woman crouched underneath.

The car has been impounded and may be forfeited. The penalties for overstaying or illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane. Penalties for illegal departure is a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
