It was Daddy's Day Out at East Coast Park yesterday, as more than 700 families gathered for an evening of fun, food and games to celebrate the role of fathers, grandfathers and uncles in their lives.

Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin (in red), who joined the participants, said such events can promote father-child bonding.

"Close to three in four mothers agreed that fathers are as good as them in caring for the children," he said.

"Thus, all dads out there, take heart in this - we dads can do much more than just engaging our children in play."

The Celebrating Fathers Picnic was organised by social group Families for Life, which aims to champion and promote resilient families.
