Case starts accreditation scheme for gold jewellers

SINGAPORE - Consumers who buy gold jewellery can now turn to accredited businesses to make sure they are getting what they paid for.

The Singapore Jewellers Association (SJA) and the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) have jointly developed an accreditation scheme for the industry called the CaseTrust- SJA Accreditation scheme.

So far, 28 SJA members with a total of 149 outlets here have joined the scheme.

All the accredited businesses are subjected to stringent checks, said Case executive director Seah Seng Choo who helped to launch the scheme on Friday.

These include providing consumers with clear policies for refunds and a detailed cost breakdown such as nett gold weight, as well as weighing the jewellery without the price tag.
