Capsized barge: Search for missing men draw a blank on Day 3

THE search for eight missing crew members of a barge which capsized in Singapore's waters continued on Friday - with no luck so far.

The missing men, all Chinese nationals, were among a crew of 10 who were on board the Mongolian- flagged Guo Liang 677 when it capsized 13km north of Pedra Branca island on Wednesday. Two were rescued on the same day.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Friday that it continued to coordinate the search and rescue effort involving the air force, navy, coast guard, and commercial vessels.

As at 6pm, the operations had involved a total of two Super Puma helicopters and two Fokker-50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft from the air force, four patrol vessels from the navy, three coast guard patrol craft, and 64 passing commercial vessels.

Also involved were divers and two diving support vessels from Resolve Salvage & Fire (Asia), which provides emergency response for vessels in distress.
