CAAS launches gallery along Orchard Road as part of efforts to promote aviation careers

SINGAPORE - As part of a year-long campaign to raise awareness of aviation and promote careers in the field, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Monday launched The Heart Of Aviation Gallery along Orchard Road.

Opened by Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Mrs Josephine Teo, the gallery is one of three exhibitions that will open to the public in June.

There will be two satellite galleries at Jurong Point and Bedok Mall from June 18 to 23 and June 24 to 30 respectively, between 11am and 9pm daily.

The Gallery at Orchard consists of four thematic zones, exhibited along the pedestrian walkway between ION Orchard and Wisma Atria. It will be open daily from June 8 to July 5 between 11am and 9pm.

Features include aviation's contributions to Singapore over the last 50 years, as well as several professionals who contributed to the Singapore aviation hub.

A CAAS spokesperson said that the exhibitions were in line with its focus on youth outreach and manpower development, "for the aviation industry now and in the future".

Air travel is projected to grow strongly over the next twenty years, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, which is projected to grow at 4.9 per cent annually, accounting for 42 per cent of global passenger traffic. The number of passengers at Changi Airport is also expected to double in twenty years.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Teo said: "At the end of it all, behind all of the... gleaming facades, it is the people that make Changi Airport the iconic experience it is."
