An SMRT bus driver is in trouble for clipping and driving, after a video of him trimming his fingernails at the wheel emerged on the Internet.

Transport operator SMRT said yesterday it will discipline the driver, whose dangerous act was posted online on July 25.

In the 28-second video, the unnamed driver is shown resting his left hand on the steering wheel, while trimming his nails with a nail clipper using his other hand. He then takes both hands off the steering wheel to examine his handiwork as the bus continues to move along the expressway.

The Straits Times understands that he was the driver of bus service number 858, which was travelling towards Woodlands from Changi Airport at the time.

Comments from netizens who saw the video ranged from "irresponsible" to "dangerous".

In its statement, SMRT said: "Safety is important to us and we take this matter seriously.

"We have identified the driver and disciplinary action will be taken."

In a similar incident last December, an SMRT bus driver was fired for watching a movie on his tablet while driving.
