SINGAPORE - A burst pipe in the Bukit Batok area on Sunday (Oct 1) morning sent water shooting metres into the air near blocks 222 and 223 in Bukit Batok East Avenue 3.

National water agency PUB told The Straits Times that it had received reports of the leak "on a water main on the turf area" near those blocks early in the morning.

It added: "The leak was also detected by our sensors."

PUB said it immediately sent officers and repair contractors to the site, and the leak was stopped at 9am.

"Repair works are ongoing and are expected to be completed by today. There is no road closure and traffic remains smooth," said the agency.

It assured customers that water supply to them is not affected and that it is investigating the cause of the leak.

This latest incident reminded residents in the area of the "water fountain" created from a burst pipe last week at the junction of Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 and Bukit Batok West Avenue 8.

Motorists then were greeted by water gushing up from the middle of the road .

Said PUB: "This (today's case) is a separate incident and not related to the earlier pipe leak at Bukit Batok West, which has been repaired."

Correction note: An earlier version of the story said it happened at Bukit Batok Central. It should be Bukit Batok East Avenue 3. We are sorry for the error.
