Boy, 15, hospitalised for smoke inhalation after flat is wrecked by fire

SINGAPORE - A fire left one teenager injured and a housing board flat badly damaged on Thursday afternoon.

The affected unit was in an Hougang Street 11 block, and residents from six floors were evacuated. The Singapore Civil Defence Force, which was alerted to the fire at about 3.30pm, dispatched one fire engine, two red rhinos, two fire bikes, one ambulance and one support vehicle.

Firefighters had to break open the metal grille of the affected unit to rescue a teenage boy. The 15-year-old was then sent to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

SCDF said that the flames involved the contents of a living room, and was extinguished with one water jet in five minutes. The cause of fire is still under investigation.
