SINGAPORE - The police has warned about phone scammers posing as police officers.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) posted the warning on Facebook after it received many reports on Saturday about the scam.

Members of the public have reported that they picked up phone calls from a person claiming to be from the police.

"The recipients of such calls would first hear an automated Mandarin voice message instructing them to enter a number," said the SPF on their Facebook page.

"A Mandarin-speaking operator would then ask for their personal information, or be told to proceed to the police station with their identification card or police officers would be despatched to their residence."

The calls are not made by police officers, SPF clarified.

"Such calls are typical scammers' tactics," SPF added.

It advised members of public to take the following precautions:

• Ignore such calls and the caller's instructions.

• Do not provide your name, identification number, passport details, contact details, bank account or credit card details. Such information are useful to criminals.

Those who have received such calls or have information related to such scams can submit the information online or lodge a police report.
