AsiaOne fans pick favourite brands

VIVOCITY, Singapore Airlines and Samsung were among the winners at the AsiaOne People's Choice Awards this year.

Into their fifth year, the awards gave AsiaOne readers a chance to vote for their favourite brands, products and services.

More than 180,000 votes were cast from last October to January this year, with more than 200 nominees for 27 award categories.

To reflect the growing diversity of consumer choices, a Best Budget Airline category was added this year.

The camera category has also been expanded to include Best Mirrorless Camera, Best DSLR Camera and Best Compact Series.

"From our very first awards, the vote count has grown by leaps and bounds to nearly 200,000 votes," said AsiaOne editor

Adrian Tay at the award ceremony, which was held at the SPH News Centre Auditorium last night. "This means that there are more people voting for their favourites."

The categories for Best Full Service Airline, Best Tablet and Best Mobile Phone, which was awarded to Samsung's Galaxy SIII, received the most votes.

Samsung Asia's vice-president of sales and marketing Irene Ng said: "All our phones are well designed with innovative features that are easy to use. This contributes to the popularity and acceptance of our phones."

AsiaOne was partnered by gold sponsor Fuji Xerox Singapore for the event. This year, a special Hall of Fame segment was unveiled to recognise repeat winners POSB Everyday Card and SIM Global Education for clinching the top spot for five consecutive years in the Best Credit/Debit Card and Best Private School categories, respectively.

Mr Luke Siew, assistant vice-president for cards and unsecured loans at DBS Bank's consumer banking group, said: "The award is a very good recognition of how the POSB Everyday Card has been addressing the needs of Singaporeans over the years."
