Members of the public who visit the Asian Civilisations Museum this weekend will be able to take guided tours in Malay.

The museum has teamed up with Madrasah Aljunied and the National Institute of Education (NIE) to offer guided tours in Malay on Saturday and Sunday to mark the launch of Malay Language Month.

In all, 16 Malay trainee teachers from NIE and seven Madrasah students will lead the tour, which will showcase objects that highlight the links between the Malay language and culture with the wider Asian region.

Said museum director Dr Alan Chong: "We see the collaboration with the madarasah as a first step to getting more young people to guide in Malay. Language is culture. And the museum is dedicated to promoting culture in all forms - tradition, art, literature, and performance."
