The Amazon River Quest boat ride at the River Safari finally opened to the public on Saturday.

The 10-minute boat ride is the last feature of the park to be launched, and marks the completion of the latest attraction by Wildlife Reserves Singapore.

The boat journeys through a 483m-long man-made river, and is designed to simulate an open-top boat voyage down the Amazon River. Visitors will be able to view close to 30 animal species while on the ride, including the red-backed bearded saki monkey, collared peccary, and red howler monkey, which are unique to River Safari.

While not a thrill ride, the Amazon River Quest includes some gentle plunges and visitors sitting in the front row are likely to get wet. Visitors to the park who took the boat ride on Saturday morning said the highlights were the jaguars, which were housed in a glass enclosure, and the flamingos.

Father of two Wilkie Koh, who queued for 20 minutes to take the ride with his family, said it was a coincidence that they visited River Safari on the same day the boat ride was launched. "It is our first time to the River Safari, so we were quite lucky," said Mr Koh.
