A fifth Indian national was charged on Wednesday with the murder of a 28-year-old man near Jurong Lake Park on New Year's Day.

No plea was taken from Somasundaram Ilayaraja, 29, who is said to have been with Raja Arul, 22, Ramasami Rabinhood, 25, Bose Muruganandham, 32, and Palanisamy Vijayakumar, 26, and several others when one or more caused the death of Mr Boobalan Palanikumar while being members of an unlawful assembly.

He is remanded for further investigation and his case will be up for mention on Jan 16. If convicted of the capital charge, he could be hanged.
