About 5,000 people attended a mass at St Joseph's Institution on Wednesday, where a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as Our Lady of Fatima, was carried around the school field in a candlelight procession. Blessed by Pope Francis in January, the statue travelled from Vatican City to other countries in Asia, before stopping in Singapore on Monday. Another five statues blessed by the Pope - one for each continent - have been making their way around the globe. The activities commemorate the centennial of the appearance of Mary to three Catholic children in the Portuguese town of Fatima in 1917. Celebrations continue in various Catholic churches and institutions until Monday, when the statue will depart for the Philippines.
