37-year-old man who stole woman's bag at knife point arrested for armed robbery

SINGAPORE - A 37-year-old man was on Tuesday (June 6) arrested in relation to a case of armed robbery in Jurong West on Sunday (June 4) night.

He allegedly brandished a knife and stole a 46-year-old woman's bag along Kang Ching Road at 6.35pm that day.

He then fled the scene, police said in a statement on Tuesday.

Jurong Police Division officers identified the suspect after extensive investigations, with the help of images from police cameras.

They arrested him at York Hill, in Tiong Bahru, two days later.

If convicted of armed robbery, the man can be jailed up to 14 years and receive up to 12 strokes of the cane.

Just last month, a 27-year-old man was arrested for armed robbery at Lakeside. He had forced a man to hand over his car keys at knife point.
