2,700 needy families given bags of rice from North West CDC

Some 2,700 needy families in the North West district received bags of rice today.

Grassroots adviser and Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, distributed the rice together with North West district mayor Teo Ho Pin and MP (Holland-Bukit Timah GRC) Liang Eng Hwa, at Senja Road this morning.

Today's event was a culmination of North West Community Development Council's (CDC) "Grains of Kindness" Facebook campaign.

The two-month project aimed to showcase and inspire acts of kindness by encouraging residents and members of the public to capture an act of kindness or pledge to do a kind act.

Through the 5,600 postings and pledges, 27,000kg of SongHe rice sponsored by Tong Seng Produce was raised.

Each family received two 5kg bags of rice.
