SINGAPORE - Almost 2,000 elderly Yuhua residents received "prosperity rice packages" on Sunday, as part of a community event to usher in the Chinese New Year.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Grace Fu, who is also adviser to the Yuhua grassroots organisations, joined grassroots leaders and about 150 students in distributing the packages.

About 1,700 bags were given out at Yuhua Community Club, while 300 were delivered to the doorsteps of nearby residents who have difficulty in leaving their homes.

There were also booths set up by community partners such as Jurong Health Services, to give the elderly information on how to improve their health and social well-being.
