123 suspected drug offenders arrested, drugs worth $220,000 seized

The Central Narcotics Bureau arrested 123 suspected drug offenders, and seized drugs worth about $220,000 in a four-day island-wide operation that ended on Friday.

Drugs seized included about 127 grams of heroin, 315 grams of "Ice", more than 10,000 Erimin-5 tablets, almost 500 Ecstasy tablets and more than 1,000 grams of ketamine.

The operation was conducted in areas like Circuit Road, Balestier Road and Clementi.

In one case in Yishun on Tuesday, a 41-year-old suspected drug trafficker was arrested. Through a search, they found more than $1,000, and about three small packets and 46 straws of heroin weighing a total of about 43 grams, with a street price of more than S$4,600. Two drug abusers, aged 33 and 36 who were seen with him were also arrested in Yishun.

If convicted of drug trafficking, the 41-year-old faces at a minimum of five years in jail, and five strokes of the cane.

Director Supervision Division, Mr Sng Chern Hong, said the amount of heroin seized is "enough to feed the addiction of about 143 abusers for one day".

"If such activities are left unchecked, more potential drug abusers could be contaminated. We will spare no effort and will continue to push on to clamp down on such street-level drug traffickers," he added.
