Civil servants will get a year-end bonus of 1.1 months, with the minimum set at $1,600 to benefit lower-wage officers, the Public Service Division (PSD) said in a statement on Thursday.

Some 1,300 civil servants earning less than $1,460 will get a minimum Annual Variable Component payment of $1,600, it said. For example, an officer earning a monthly salary of $1,200 will get $1,600 in bonus, which is $280 more than the $1,320 he would have received based on 1.1 months of his salary.

"This signals the Government's continued commitment to help lower-wage workers," it said, adding that the payment was decided in consultation with public sector unions.

The announcement rides on the official forecast that Singapore's economy is set to grow 3.5 to 4 per cent this year, supported by a slight pickup in the global economy and domestically-oriented sectors like construction and business services, the PSD said.

All civil servants will also get the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance of one month, to be paid next month along with the AVC, the PSD added.
