100,000 join mass walk across 70 venues for SG50

SINGAPORE - About 100,000 residents woke up early Sunday morning and took part in a mass walk around various parts of Singapore to celebrate the nation's jubilee.

This was the sixth year of the One Community Walk organised by People's Association, and the event happened at 70 venues simultaneously.

Marine Parade GRC saw almost 3,000 of its residents form the Singapore flag using umbrellas before taking a scenic stroll from Tanjong Rhu Road to the east of Gardens by the Bay.

Those from Ang Mo Kio GRC walked from Nanyang Polytechnic to the Institute of Technical Education College Central.

The community walk raised $100,000 from corporate sponsors for charities such as Singapore Children's Society and Thye Hua Kean Moral Society.

Ms Tan Ming Yueh, 39, who attended the walk with her husband, three year old son and helper, said: "It is so meaningful to see everyone come together dressed in red."
