SEVERAL racing memorabilia signed by Scuderia Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa - including replicas of their 2009 helmets - went under the hammer at a charity auction organised by Shell to raise money for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The auction raised more than $56,000. Additional contributions from Shell staff, customers and business associates brought the total donation to $150,000. Staff donations under a dollar-for-dollar matching initiative by Shell resulted in over $54,000 being collected over a two-week period.

The company also organised a charity golf challenge on Saturday for its customers and business associates, with each birdie earning the charity $1,000.

Shell chief executive Peter Voser, in town over the weekend, presented the donation cheque to Patrick Daniel, Singapore Press Holdings editor-in-chief of English and Malay newspapers, at the Sentosa Golf Club on Saturday.

Last year, Shell also held a charity auction of Ferrari memorabilia in conjunction with the first Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. Shell hopes to make this charity effort an annual affair.
