Seat-belt study should not take so long in First-World S'pore
| I WAS amazed at last Sunday's article, 'Seat-belt rule for school buses will take time'.
If a study on seat belts on school buses by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been ongoing since 2006, why then have the safety experts not been consulted yet? Isn't this something that would have been done at the start of the study? It is also annoying to hear the authorities keep reiterating that cost will go up and this cost will be passed on to parents. Cost should not be a consideration when our children's safety is at stake. Aren't our children priceless? School bus fees have gone up a number of times over the past few years but these increases were absorbed by parents, so why the major concern with cost now? Another point of contention is that over the years, it is obvious that many people have contacted the LTA with respect to seat belts on school buses and, to date, nothing has been done. I hope the LTA will now spring into action and implement this law. Singapore is a first-rate country and it should not take this long to do a study on seat belts in school buses. Ciler Gazi (Ms) | |
