Kindergarten lights left on all night long
ON THE night of May 4, the kindergarten units directly below my two bedrooms in Rivervale Drive had their lights on throughout the night till the early hours of the morning. The bedrooms became very hot due to the heat from the lights in the kindergarten.

I called the town council hotline and asked for assistance but was told nothing could be done because the circuit box was located in the kindergarten.

I then called the PAP Community Foundation (PCF) to explain my problem. The officer told me the kindergarten could be having extra classes, so I pointed out that it was a Sunday night. I told her I went down to knock on the centre door at about 11.30pm but no one was there.

The PCF officer did not seem to understand my problem and kept insisting there might have been extra classes. She added that she would call the supervisor but could not guarantee the lights would be off at night as there might be extra classes.

It was obvious that either the lights were left on deliberately or someone had forgotten to switch them off but the PCF officer did not seem to want to admit this. My main purpose was to highlight to kindergarten staff about lights left on throughout the night but what I got were lame excuses. Why is it so hard to admit there may have been an oversight on someone's part?

I would not be writing this if the PCF officer had handled it professionally by just telling me she would look into the matter and assuring me it would not happen again. Time and again, we are reminded to save energy.
