Storm drains checked for mozzies: Agencies
| PUB, the national water agency, and National Environment Agency (NEA) thank Mrs Joyce Ho for her letter, 'Highlight storm drains in dengue battle' (April 30).
Drains in public areas are checked by PUB and NEA regularly to ensure there is no breeding of mosquitoes. Within HDB estates, town councils, too, have a maintenance regime to keep drains clean and free flowing. NEA leads an inter-agency dengue task force comprising government agencies and private associations, including PUB, to coordinate dengue control efforts. One effort is to map out problematic areas for surveillance and close monitoring. This includes drains in public areas and private housing estates. Where necessary, PUB will increase the frequency of drain cleansing in dengue hotspots and litter-prone areas. We call on the public to help keep our drains and canals clean and litter-free. We welcome feedback from the public and we can be contacted at hotline 1800-CALL-NEA (1800-2255632) and PUB-One (1800-2846600). Tan Nguan Sen S. Satish Appoo | |
