Yes, catch fare cheats, but stop overcharging
| I REFER to your article on Saturday, 'Fare cheats to be fined $20 from July'.
I agree that fare evaders and those who misuse concession cards ought to be brought to justice. The loss of $9 million annually because of fare cheats is no small sum. But what happens when commuters are overcharged? Is there data to show how much profit from overcharging is gained by transport operators? I have been overcharged almost weekly but find it too troublesome and time consuming to ask for a refund. Law-abiding commuters like me feel just as cheated. Would the authorities care to comment?
