Consider change to taxi-stand rule, LTA
| MR NOR Azam Ahmad must be commended on his suggestion yesterday that taxis be allowed to alight passengers anywhere but pick up only at taxi stands. It is true that cabbies make sudden swerves or stops when they see a prospective passenger but not when they drop off passengers. Also, they usually line up their vehicle way in advance to alight passengers.
Mr Nor's suggestion is the most practical so far on the new taxi-stand rule and I hope the Land Transport Authority will give it serious consideration. If it cannot be adopted, it is only logical to impose a similar rule for private cars - that is, alight passengers only at designated drop-off stands. Let's be fair to all drivers on the road.
