Offer day season tickets in HDB carparks
| I WORK in a commercial building in Tampines Central. There is a lack of season parking spaces for office tenants and many of us have to buy season parking in HDB estate carparks nearby.
Recently, I suggested my colleague buy a season ticket in the carpark I use. This carpark, like many other HDB residential carparks, is under-used in the daytime. To his surprise, the HDB Tampines area office rejected his request, citing residents' complaints that there are insufficient lots for them. I understand and respect the residents' concern. May I suggest the HDB introduce a 'day' season ticket for office tenants like us? This should be valid, say, from 7am to 7pm on Mondays to Fridays when most residents are not at home. If we park beyond 7pm, then normal hourly rates apply. It can be priced a little lower than regular season tickets since night, overnight and weekend parking is not allowed. With electronic parking discs in use, this should not be too challenging to implement. It will benefit all parties: office tenants, who will leave by 7pm; residents, who usually return home after 7pm; and the HDB, which earns more revenue. Daniel Tan Yong Nam | |
