More patrols at these hangouts?
AFTER the March 6 fatal shooting by police at Outram Park MRT station of a man linked to a killing at a hawker centre earlier that day, I suggest police step up their patrols at hawker centres and coffee shops. These are a hive of activity where alcohol is consumed and arguments and fights are not uncommon. Boat Quay and Clarke Quay see patrols by police regularly, in addition to those by private security hired by pubs and lounges to keep their establishments safe.

Hawker centres and coffee shops can be similarly afflicted by violent behaviour. Last Thursday's stabbing was the second killing in such places in a month. The other was the stabbing of a 26-year-old salesman in front of a Geylang coffee shop on Feb 23.
