Two other carparks near one reserved for event
I REFER to the letter, 'Why bar drivers from using public carpark?', by Ms Mariana Jumari on Monday.

Ms Mariana cited an incident at Fort Canning Park where her husband was denied the use of carparkB which was reserved for an event. She wanted to know under what circumstances would entire carparks be leased out to event organisers.

The public carparks at Fort Canning Park are operated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). From time to time, URA receives requests for its carparks to be closed or reserved for special events. Such requests are considered based on the merits of each case.

On Feb 27, a welcome reception for the HSBC Women's Champions Golf Tournament was held at the National Museum. The organisers requested that some carparks be reserved for the large number of guests invited to the event.

As there are three carparks in the Fort Canning area, URA agreed to reserve carpark B for this event. Carparks A and C nearby continued to be available to other motorists.

As advised by URA, the event organiser had stationed staff on-site and put up a signboard at the entrance of carpark B to inform motorists of the closure of the carpark and to direct them to carparks A and C.

We thank Ms Mariana for the feedback and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
