Why not all students can get travel concession
| I REFER to the letter, 'Why the distinction?' by Mr Tan Jia Lin (Feb 20) and wish to explain that the travel concession scheme is provided by the public transport operators and administered by TransitLink.
Under the scheme, only full-time undergraduates and diploma students from approved tertiary institutions, who are neither sponsored by nor receiving an allowance from an organisation, are eligible for the Tertiary Student ez-link card. Public bus and train services are run commercially. The non-concession fares paid by full-fare paying commuters go towards covering the discounts given in concession fares. If further discounts were to be granted, full-fare paying commuters might be adversely affected. In the interests of full-fare paying commuters, Transit- Link and public transport operators must exercise prudence when granting concessions beyond the present arrangement. For more information on Tertiary Student ez-link cards, commuters may log on to the TransitLink website www.transitlink.com.sg or call toll-free TransitLink Hotline 1800-CALL ONE (1800-2255-663). We thank Mr Tan for his feedback. Kathryn Lau (Ms) | |
