Are there plans for unified journey planner?
I FOLLOWED with interest the recent reports and discussions on the revamp of the transport system. I have two points to raise.

The first is on cost. I am an undergraduate who lives in the eastern part of Singapore. To get to school, I need to take a feeder bus, followed by a train ride, and finally another bus to enter the school compound. As a tertiary student, I can purchase a bus concession pass, train concession pass, or a hybrid of both.

Based on my calculations, the hybrid pass offers the best value for money. However, to break even, I would need to travel to school five days a week.

While I do not have the actual statistics, it is completely reasonable to state that most students have four days of school, or even three. This is especially so during the later years of study which are less lecture-intensive and more project-based.

Thus I would like to ask if this revamp would help students like myself.

My next point is regarding SBS Transit's Journey Planner. For years, I have been using the Journey Planner provided on its website. I find it to be an extremely useful service, and use it whenever I need to get to an unfamiliar place.

It is not perfect; it does not plan routes involving SMRT trains and buses. But this is not a big issue as the system is simple enough to cross-reference with SMRT's website.

As a computing student, I appreciate the complexity and beauty of such a system, and am appreciative of SBS Transit's efforts to develop the system.

My second point then is that with the introduction of additional bus operators and revamp of bus routes, would SBS's Journey Planner become irrelevant and obsolete? Are there plans to introduce a unified Journey Planner system?
