No new numbers for residential phones
I PLAN to instal a second residential telephone line. Thus I was surprised to find out from SingTel that I am unable to get a new telephone number. There is none available.

SingTel says it is the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) which releases new residential telephone numbers, and it has no information as to when IDA will release new ones.

I was advised to take a recycled number which was used previously for a public telephone. I was assured that there were no incoming calls to these public telephones and I need not worry about getting calls from strangers.

The lack of new phone numbers is an issue because the population - and number of households - is expanding rapidly.

Is Singapore falling behind in its investment in telephone infrastructure?
