No problem taking bike on train
IN LIGHT of the ongoing debate about bicycles on the MRT, I decided to take my bike (in a bike bag) from Pasir Ris MRT station to Somerset MRT station where the skate park is located.

I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to get on the train without any hitch.

The station staff did not stop me from entering through the gantry gates.

I also made it a point to get to the end of the carriage as normally not many commuters stand there and I could place my bike near the door and not create an obstruction.

Commuters were very obliging and even gave way when I wanted to alight.

I find the travelling public and MRT staff alike were more accepting on this issue.

In addition, when I was heading back to Pasir Ris from Bugis MRT station, I walked through the gantry (not one for the handicapped) and had trouble squeezing through.

An MRT officer approached me - initially, I thought I would be scolded and kicked out of the station - and to my surprise, the officer advised me to use the larger gantry for wheelchair users.

With proper bike bags and alertness, no injuries should be caused as if one takes care in one's actions.

If Singapore wants to produce world-class BMX athletes in future, more skate parks must be built to international standards to ensure riders can have proper training for international BMX events.

I believe once these issues have been reviewed and rectified, it can pave the way for good things to come on the BMX scene in Singapore.
