ACCESS FOR DISABLED, ELDERLY
Barriers created block everyone's way
| I REFER to the letter, 'Access for disabled: Building authority working with malls' (ST, Jan2), from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
To quote from the letter: 'BCA has mapped out a Barrier-Free Accessibility Masterplan to steer public- and private-sector buildings towards barrier-free accessibility. 'Last year, the new Code on Accessibility in the Built Environment was launched to put in place new requirements to improve interconnections between buildings and infrastructures.' But at Block 18 Hougang Avenue 3, barriers (obstructions) have been put up to obstruct the accessibility of wheelchair-bound disabled and other residents within their own residential block.
