Why no pro-family discount for all carparks?
I REFER to the report, '2,800 motorists buy HDB family season parking tickets' (ST, Dec 30).

The Housing Board was quoted as saying this scheme was started 'so family members can visit one another without worrying about the cost of parking'.

Unfortunately, from my experience when applying for such family tickets, trying to park in an HDB carpark near the relative you are visiting is not as straightforward as it seems.

Apparently, such a scheme of discounted tickets does not apply to so-called 'popular' carparks, which include the few open-air carparks near my mother-in-law's King George's Avenue block.

I suppose these carparks are popular due to the mix of residential and commercial activities in the area. So for those who have relatives in areas with popular HDB carparks - sorry, no discount.

The question to HDB is, why should there be such discrimination in its policy? The pro-family discount should be extended to all residents, irrespective of whether their carparks are popular or not.
