Ban test-drive terror from driving for life
I REFER to the article, 'Mazda MX-5 death: Test-drive man jailed' (ST, Oct 25), about Regan Lee Da Wen being jailed for seven months and banned from driving for 10 years.

Lee is finally paying for his reckless behaviour. However, the sentence is too light for a crime that took the life of a young woman.

He is a threat to other road users. In over-estimating his ability to control the powerful sports car, he destroyed Miss Angelia He Xueli's family as well as caused injuries to other road users.

To want to purchase such a powerful car when he had just got his licence was a reflection of his arrogance and desire to show off.

To want to buy another fast car while police investigations were going on showed that Lee did not feel any trace of penitence or guilt over the fact that his reckless behaviour caused the loss of an innocent life.

Hence a mere 10-year ban is not enough. He should be banned from driving for life.

Lee's disregard for safety and incompetence in driving will make the roads more perilous when he is allowed back on the road. How many lives must he take before he is banned for life?
