Grid Girls Challenge part of aim to bring F1 experience closer to public: SingTel
I REFER to Wednesday's online letter, 'Minimum age for Grid Girls contest should be 18', by Ms Winnie Ang. We would like to thank Ms Ang for her feedback.

The SingTel Grid Girls Challenge is part of SingTel's aim to bring the F1 experience closer to our customers and the public. We try to be as inclusive as possible with the age range and positioned it in line with similar competitions. Applicants sign up for the competition of their own free will and those below the age of 21 are required to obtain parental consent.

We wish to support ladies who hope to use the F1 race as an international stage to launch their careers. Grid Girls have always been a part of the F1 races and, for the Singapore race, their roles are clear: to indicate the designated spot on the grid to the respective driver before the start of each race, while bringing fun and glamour to the event with their stylish looks and sporty personalities.

Public feedback on the applicants will be taken into consideration when selecting the 48 girls. At the application stage and throughout the competition, the applicants will need to engage the public through SingTel's Moblog website, offering insights into their thoughts and personalities. During the television episodes, contestants will be tested on their F1 knowledge and put through a series of challenges to determine the eventual winners.

We aim to reach out to all Singaporeans with the F1 experience and have set up a series of F1-related activities. We wish to invite everyone to try their hand at the Prediction Challenge and the SingTel Ultimate Race. For more details, please visit www.singtelrace.com.

We look forward to the continued support of the public in making Singapore's first F1 race a success.
