Indian expats not here to do charity, unless they choose to
| I AM surprised to read Tuesday's letter, 'Expat Indians should help all races', by Mrs Padmimini Kesavapany who called on Indian expats here to go beyond racial barriers and be charitable to all races.
Her argument is flawed. Why must the Indian expats go beyond racial barriers to do charity? There are many expats from various countries here. Why pick on Indian expats? In Singapore, we have ethnic groups, for example Sinda, to help Indians in need. I wonder why the writer is picking on Indian expats, saying they have a 'superiority' complex and not pitching in to help the Indian community as well as other races. The Indian expats are here to earn a living. They are here by choice and are contributing to our economy. They are not here to do charity, unless they choose to. Retnam Thillainathan | |
