Tibet: unequal treatment by China
| I REFER to Dr Ong Siew Cheng's letter, 'Tibet's current violence smells of a Western agenda' (April 11). I agree that China has done much to modernise Tibet. But so did Britain and Portugal for Hong Kong and Macau, respectively.
What China had not really done was to treat Tibet on an equal footing like how it treated Hong Kong and Macau. The fault therefore lies with China and not on the influence of the 'Western agenda' for creating the current crises. What Tibet really needs is greater autonomy in running the affairs of its own people under China's sovereignty. J. Balkara Singh | |
