Costly SMS spam that started with a contest for kids
| SOMETIME about November last year, my eight-year-old daughter probably used my mobile phone to join a contest for a chance to win a PSP unit, when she saw it advertised over Kids Central. This initial call was to cost me $44, as reflected in my next SingTel bill under the category 'content download' from a third party called Glomobi.
I know that I am responsible for all incoming/outgoing calls incurred on my mobile line and I am willing to pay for the initial call made by my daughter but to call this a subscription, and tag the bill to SingTel, is not right. I called SingTel to complain. Its Customer Representative, on hearing my complaint, promised to credit my account regardless and that SingTel will settle the issue with Glomobi. But my SingTel bill was not credited the following month. I called again to find out why. I was told that it was in the midst of processing and that I should be patient - and that the credit would definitely be reflected in the next month's bill. But that is not so. I also called Glomobi and I had to leave a voice message. Someone from the company returned my call and listened to my complaint but did nothing. Another Glomobi representative called me a month later and offered to resolve the matter at a 50 per cent discount. I didn't take up the offer. As of now, my money is gone and I understand that there is probably no way of getting it back. Tony Pang Keh Wah | |
