Can members veto stiff hike in club subscription fees?
HOW are we protected when it comes to club membership purchases? The sums involved individually and collectively are not small.

Let me illustrate. The Sijori Resort in Sentosa sold its resort to Treasure Resort in 2006. Recently, the members were offered new membership contracts under the new resort. The letter also stated that Treasure Resort did not receive any part of the entrance fee of $20,000 to $30,000 previously paid to Sijori. The members, in the new circular, were also told that should they not accept the new offer, they will have to look to Sijori for any recourse.

In addition, the members were informed that the monthly subscription will increase from $30 to $90 to $165 to $275 per month for individual and family membership respectively with effect from this month. Do the members have any rights to question or veto the significant increase of membership fees in such short notice?

It is about time that we have clearer and fairer rules to protect consumers so that the benefits are not limited to club and resort management owners but the members who supported them as well.
