Esplanade doesn't jam cellphones but isolated spaces within may result in signal loss
WE REFER to the letter by Mr Tan Siang Meng, 'Does Esplanade block phone signals?' (Online forum, Feb 19).

There are actually no jamming devices employed at our performance spaces. Each performance space was built to ensure the best audience experience possible. This includes acoustic features for the Concert Hall and Theatre that ensure there is minimum disruption to the performance in the halls.

To do this, each space is actually isolated from the external structure and designed as a box within a box concept.

While no jamming devices are employed, the isolation of the performing space does mean that it is more difficult, though not impossible, for phone signals to reach the halls.

We do, however, encourage our patrons to turn off all mobile phones and beeping devices before a performance to ensure that they can enjoy the best possible uninterrupted performance experience.

We look forward to having Mr Tan with us again.
