F1 race in September: Has everything been thought out?
| WITH Formula One coming to Singapore from Sept 26 to 28, I wonder if the public has been given due consideration.
When the F1 race starts, would it be a public holiday on Sept 26, which is a Friday? Or would office workers be ushered to leave office early? When will the road blocks start and end? Will they last the whole day? While the hotels will benefit from the events, I doubt the shops, F&B and entertainment outlets within Marina Bay district would. The way I see it, only pass holders who pay a minimum of $168 would be able to enter the area. Who will compensate these tenants? What will happen to those who had booked their hotel wedding dinner in the vicinity of the race venue way ahead of the announcement of the race? Will plays at the Explanade be affected? If not, how will theatre goers drive there? Will there be human traffic control along the Benjamin Shears Bridge, which is probably the best place to hang around for an overview of the race? Will there be traffic marshals along roads on the outskirts of the circuit to prevent motorists from parking their vehicles irresponsibly? I hope the organisers and authorities have thought of all the points mentioned above. Just look at the first day of ticket purchase fiasco on Feb 14, and it is clear why there should be better preparations. Tong Chee Kin | |
