Another case of insurance premiums up even though not a single claim has been made
| I REFER to the letter, 'No claims but premium up' by Mr Yeo Shuan Chee (The Sunday Times, Feb 2).
I, too, encountered increases in car insurance premiums over recent years, and again this year. I have maintained my 50 per cent no-claims discount (NCD), with not a single claim since I started driving 16 years ago. With the drop in car prices in recent years, one would expect premiums to drop. Also, generally, premiums should drop as a car ages. The reason given by the agent is that motor insurance companies have been suffering losses due to an increase in the number of claims. One scheme that my agent kept peddling is the 'NCD protection'. I refused to take up the offer. With this scheme, motorists can make claims for all kinds of repair without affecting the NCD. How can we expect premiums not to go up with the availability of such a scheme? Should this scheme be allowed to continue? Will the authority care to comment? Seow Joo Heng | |
