CDP should be more environmentally friendly and phase out Confirmation Notes
THE Central Depository sends out a lot of correspondence to share investors, among them a 'Confirmation Note'.

To me, this is a duplicate of the 'Contract Statement'. Not only is this a duplicate, but it also does not contain as much information as that given in the 'Contract Statement'.

When I called up CDP and politely asked if they could stop sending me the 'Confirmation note', the male Customer Service Officer gave only a curt reply that all correspondence will have to be terminated. There is no way they can just exclude Confirmation Notes.

I know of people who keep Contract Statements. To me, the more efficient way will probably be filing up quarterly statements. But I have yet to see anybody who pays special attention to Confirmation Notes. For someone who purchases shares fairly frequently, I can't help but feel sorry everytime I have to throw these notes away. There is no way I can recycle them because they are printed on both sides.

I would like to appeal to the authorities to relook into the need for sending out Confirmation Notes to investors. It is likely that, historically, this may have served a purpose. However, at this day and age, I think it is a redundant system.

I sincerely hope they can phase this out so that more trees can be saved. It may not be much, but every little effort helps.
