Bread with mould on it served - not once, but twice

| I WENT to Tong Shui Cafe in Liang Seah Street last week with my colleagues, keen to try its specialty toast.
To our horror, when the dish was served to us, we found patches of mould on the bread. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, the waitress grudgingly changed it without a word of apology or explanation. Despite this bad experience, we assumed that perhaps this was a one-off incident and went back to the cafe again this week for lunch. We ordered its specialty toast and once again found mould on the bread. We signalled to a man who appeared to be the manager as he was dressed differently from the rest of the staff. After a separate dispute we had with him over a misunderstanding over a 1-for-1 promotion the cafe had, we brought up the issue of the mouldy bread. At first, he looked at the bread and denied the presence of any mould. After we pointed out the greyish-greenish spores to him, his response was that the residue was a result of the bread being toasted. After cancelling our order and telling him that the cafe should not be serving its customers rotten food, he made these remarks: 'If you knew from your previous experience that the bread is mouldy, then next time you shouldn't order it again" and 'If you are afraid to eat it, I'm also afraid to serve you". My colleagues and I had already been extremely patient, but this has gone overboard. On top of providing terrible service, the cafe is being very irresponsible to its customers. Tay Shuyun (Ms) | |
