No refund one year after peanut butter recall
| ALMOST one year ago, there was a peanut butter recall exercised by ConAgra Foods, the manufacturer of Peter Pan, following a salmonella scare in the United States.
The recall was supposed to be undertaken by local company Naspac Marketing Pte Ltd. According to the report, 'Peanut butter made 290 ill in US' (ST, Feb 22, 2007), to get a full refund, consumers were told to return the lid of the affected batches that bore the product code 2111 to the local agency. After months of fruitless waiting, in December 2007, I wrote an e-mail about this to the head office in the US. Though I am glad to receive a reply from them, they offered an invalid local number to call for enquiries? Is this recall a marketing gimmick? And where is the refund? Glen Goh Kwang Yih | |
