These festivals are supposed to showcase the full cultural flavour and historical significance of our ethnic origins.

That 'Singapore Chinatown' has to draw on Disney characters to showcase such an important cultural event is sad, just so very sad.

Last November, Little India decorations were distinctively Indian, very refreshing and very vibrant. In contrast, this year's Chinese New Year decoration looks like a recycled Disney World show with some leftover characters.

Has the Chinese culture, by default, morphed into an American Hollywood Disneyland culture? A 'Uniquely Singapore' culture should showcase a combination of the full flavours of the Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures, otherwise how can the evolved Singapore culture be 'unique'?

I am sure Singapore has the creative talents to manage this.
