StarHub SMS offers 'free' service that's not free after all
| I WISH to relate an incident which happened to me.
I got an SMS from StarHub that read: 'Activate ur FREE MobileTV Xtra and watch Barclays Premier League LIVE on Gee! SMS to 6030.' I replied to subscribe the free service. An hour later, I received another StarHub SMS that read: 'You are now subscribed to MobileTV Xtra@ $26.75/mth & enjoy unlimited live streaming of sports & news channels. To unsub, sms STOP_LIVETV to 6030/' I was surprised that I now had to pay charges and I immediately unsubscribed the service. About half an hour later, another SMS from StarHub read: 'You are now unsubscribed from MobileTV Xtra. The monthly subscription will not be pro-rated.' Does that mean I have to pay $26.75 to StarHub without using the service? Besides the 'free' wording in the SMS, there was no mention of any price charges structure. Tan Chee Peng | |
