Overpriced optional tours ruined honeymoon to Europe
| WE RECENTLY came back from my honeymoon (a tour to Europe booked with Chan Brothers).
This was our first time and probably the last time travelling with Chan Brothers. We paid about $3,500 per person for the 14-day trip. However, throughout the trip, we were given many optional tours, which meant we had to fork out more money. The total cost of all the additional tours amounted to about 400 euros per person. It was quite a huge additional cost to us, hence we joined in only two of the many tours. To our astonishment, we found that we were charged 50 euros on a tour where the entrance fee was only 8 euros. When questioned, the tour leader simple brushed the matter aside. There were too many other examples of the tour leader charging us more than double the actual price. We understand that the tour leader needs to earn some commission for his service. However, is charging 50 euros for an 8-euro entrance fee reasonable? We also missed one of the highlights of the tour as the tour leader changed the itinerary and cramped 1.5 days of tour into one day. As we were travelling during the Christmas and New Year period, the tour leader kept saying that we might end up with nothing to eat if we did not participate in some of the optional tours. However, when we reached the place, we found many eateries open. We booked the tour with Chan Brothers as we trust its reputation and integrity. However, we were disappointed in what we got.
